Although this isn't a baby food advertisement, as an audience when I was sitting at home waiting for my TV programme to come back on after the break I saw the beginning of this advert and initially thought based on how it started that this was an advert targeted at Mothers for babies.
Even though my judgement was wrong I felt that this advert could still have helped me to build up on my forms and conventions.
From 0:00 seconds we could see a mother appearing to tidy up and a baby sitting on a high chair (a chair in which babies are usually placed on before they are fed or given a meal.
The mother then opens the fridge at 0:07 seconds and picks up a jar of Cow & Gate baby food. (Judging from the label of the product) which was in fact an advantage because it goes to show how effective and well known the Cow & Gate brand label is. The mother even gets a bowl out for her baby while her baby taps on his high chair table for the meal and the dog barks also for his meal time.
The mother is then distracted by the telephone ringing. We continue to see the baby tapping on his table and hear and see the dog barking for food. The mother then places the dogs bowl on the babies table and the babies bowl on the floor for the dog, showing that she has been distracted and is clearly not paying any attention. (That is as far as it goes in relation to the meal time part, but I particularly liked the message behind this advert along with the way in which the baby was demonstrated and also his relationship with his mother as a baby.
The camera techniques were also spot on in terms of the way the characters were shown which is also an important factor for me to consider especially because my advert is going to be demonstrating the importance of meal times for a baby/toddler and also persuade mothers using different techniques, an effective voiceover and good use of on screen text to get my message across clearly unlike this TV licensing advert, which has made me think it was a baby food advert from the start, meaning that the forms and conventions were not demonstrated correctly and could be seen as lack of understanding.
