500 - 1000 words
Textual analysis 5 - Cow & Gate Milk
Above all the other baby food adverts I particularly enjoyed watching this advert because I felt that it looked and appeared more realistic and also went straight to the point, using a family and baby in a home like setting.
From the start of the advert we can hear a ‘tapping sound’ indicating some form of movement. We then see a toddler on screen walking along with her mother.
The voice of the woman doing the voiceover was very clear and soft sounding, fitting in well with the theme and purpose of the advert.
At 0.01 second the camera in the advert was positioned towards the floor at both the mother and babies feet, and follows their movement. This is particularly a good technique for me to bear in mind as this helps the audience to follow these footsteps closely to then want to see where they are heading off to.
We also a range of different texts on screen from 0:03 seconds right through to 0:16 informing the audience of vital aspects of the products, which is also a good idea for me to bear in mind when creating my own adverts.
The connection demonstrated throughout the advert is also a key aspect within this advert as we can not only see this connection but we can also in some ways hear it through the voiceover for example “one step for you, lots for her” referring to the audience (mother) and “her” then referring to the baby/toddler.
The target audience is very much aware of what the baby food product will provide for their baby. I.e. we are told that it contains the goodness of cow’s milk; there is iron, vitamin D and omega 3 the perfect nutrients for any baby.
There is a lot of emphasis on all the healthy ingredients provided in this milk, so much so that the mothers watching this advert will be lured into buying cow & gate milk to ensure that they are giving their toddlers the healthy option without regrets.
The colour of the cow & gate milk packaging also fits in with the colour of the babies clothing, the colour of the toddler’s Sippy cup and the colour of the on screen text towards the end of the advert.
“Because healthy toddlers are happy toddlers” is a very catchy phrase and it not only mentions the word “healthy” in it, it also enables the mothers to remember this 6 worded phrase in their heads reminding them that yes it is a healthy option but this option will also make you toddler happy.
The toddler’s actions in the advert are very natural, making the advert appear more realistic. The toddler is at times seen sitting there doing her own thing without looking like she has been forced into acting a certain way. This was also one aspect in which I needed to create within my own advert – the “realistic feel”.
All my different re-shoots helped me to create the natural feel within my own adverts, so I felt that this enabled me to get my point across not just easily but also in a simpler way without giving my target audience a sense of confusion.
